"Great first lesson! I left the student with extra practice. Today was purely a diagnostic day so that I can get to know the client better and to also assess strengths and weaknesses."
"The student is making really good progress on her vocabulary words. The homework I left her with from Monday was complete and correct, and she had reviewed the words from the next assigned list. She seemed to understand the word meanings pretty well when we went over them together. One thing I did note was that she misidentified the parts of speech of a few of the words, but only a couple this time. (I have them identify the type of word to help them recognize it in context.) We spent most of the time working on reading strategies for the test. She understood why reading the questions first was important, and I walked her through a run of questions to show her how she should approach them. Unfortunately, the practice passage was a fiction passage, and she struggled to understand the nuances. During the test, she said she will leave the fiction and poetry passages for last and concentrate on the non-fiction passages first. We had a few minutes before the end of the session, so I had her work on a few multi-step math problems. She got the answers correct, but it took her a little time to set up the problems correctly."
"The student and I spent time on reading comprehension, math, and essays again. Her biggest struggle continues to be slowing down enough to make sure she knows what the question is asking."
