Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had chosen quite a few books from the library that he wanted to read to me and since he's never excited to read, we read! Sam did an amazing job!! Best fluency ever. He read with lots of voice, great use of sounding out strategies and the books were perfect for him. They are the "An Elephant and Piggie Book" series. I loved the art and so did he. There was lots of obvious body language and heavy use of sight words so perfect for us. The books are long -- 57 pages -- but he did a great job with the first book. I told him we'd take a break and work on phonics sounds -er, -ir, and -ur. He has a tendency to sound out just the "r" so we worked on that quite a bit. He was anxious to get back to reading though so we jumped in with another book in the series. I was thrilled -- he read over 60 pages, willingly and he did it WELL. I gave him a magnet as a reward and he loved it. Best session to date!"
"We covered the letter F and did a counting game that involved number sense. The student did a great job with all activities. For next week he has to find something in his house that starts with the letter F."
"We started working with Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. We then moved to sight words. After considerable work, and discussions with his mother, we decided to have a set of flash cards created with the alphabet and example words for each letter. The student will practice for 15 minutes a day, and we will review his progress next week."
"This evening the student and I spent about 45 minutes working on a biology worksheet on Darwin's time in South America and the experiences and observations that inspired his work. We spent the rest of the session reading and discussing Harry Potter 4."
"We went over some words with tricky spellings. The student got some practice on these by writing another comic book story called Minion Time. We took turns reading aloud from our Batman book. He drew a picture and wrote sentences about his favorite part of today's story."
"We worked on the use of could and can. Also, reading comprehension. The student's reading has really improved. We also worked on frequency words and past tense verbs. The student has a great attitude. She is fun to work with."
