Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through his review packet, which included topics we've gone over that the student didn't remember how to do, namely graphing quadratics. I also taught him how to graph inequalities and how to check his work."
"Today I worked exclusively with the student to prepare him for his quiz on Monday, and he did an outstanding job. We began with some practice problems to cover past material and then did his homework assignment. He has a very strong understanding of this material and made only an occasional error, which we were able to fix. He did nearly every one of his homework problems correctly, most of which didn't even require a word of input from me. He is very well prepared for this quiz. Looking forward to hearing how it went on Tuesday!"
"We covered radical expressions, rationalizing the numerator and denominator, and operations with radicals. We then reviewed the distributive property, FOIL, and problems including all concepts discussed. The student was able to complete her homework that covered operations with radicals after we worked through some example problems."
"We moved forward through Chapter 10 to give him a leg-up on future classwork, and to test his understanding going in. The chapter is largely review, and he has a strong command. I think this means we can start playing with some geometry and trig concepts."
"In this afternoon's session, the student and I worked on and completed math sections 8.2A and 8.2B. The focus was simplifying radical expressions. The student seems to have a very firm grasp on the concepts and worked through most of the exercises very quickly."
"Today me and the student went over more review material for her placement test coming up this Saturday. All the concepts that she struggled with she now understands which include absolute value, systems of equations, and solving triangles(Area and perimeter given side lengths with "x-values.") Overall a good session and I feel that she is very prepared for her exam this coming Saturday!"
"The student and I reviewed algebra problems regarding factoring and rational expressions. We reviewed difference of squares and how to cancel out factored expressions and quantities in rational expressions. We also previewed Newton's laws of motion for the next section of his physics class."
"Today we reviewed for his Chapter 6 test which is next week. Most of the session was spent reviewing word problems which have always given the student the most problems. At the end of the session he showed a much deeper understanding and was given additional practice problems for the weekend."
"We went over some review homework that the student did very well on. It covered basic function mapping, I & D variables, and systems of equations. She was able to express competence on all three by the end of our session and knew a lot of it already. We then went on to working with quadratics, particularly transformations related to them. She did a great job. Smart student."
"Today, the student and I completed a worksheet involving inequalities and solving them. It appeared his teacher wanted to focus on the concept of switching the direction of the less than/greater than sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative number. He was able to complete the worksheet easily and quickly. He only needed a quick reminder at the beginning, and was able to take off on his own afterward. Before leaving, I took the hardest problem and created a new version of it to test him on his solving ability, which he was able to do easily. He received a 12/13 on his most recent math quiz, and is doing well in his other classes."
"The student had just started working on a new concept in class-exponent rules. Since they had just started, she only had one packet of class notes to go over that covered the rules for when one has to multiply an exponent by an exponent, add, or combine like terms. We went through her homework for the night and she did very well! She could do almost all of the problems without my help."
"The student and I went over her math homework. She does not have a test this week, so I just helped her with concepts that were on her homework that she did not understand. She understands it now and is doing much better with her math."
