Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked with acids and bases to prepare the student for a test. We focused on the concepts that pH and pOH relate to concentrations of ions. We then did practice problems with calculating pH and pOH."
"The student's class is currently studying waves. We usually work on her homework assignment but I wanted to do an overview of waves prior to starting her assignment. We discussed the structure of waves, how they move, how to quantify their movement and other relevant information that she should know for this chapter. While we were working through problems, I reinforced her physics knowledge on the relevant topics. I've seen immense improvement in the student's performance in her physics class. Next time we meet, we will continue preparing her for her upcoming exam."
"The student was having trouble making sense of charge. I explained how charge is like mass in that it's a fundamental property of matter. I also discussed the importance of having a solid free body diagram when solving problems when 2 or more charged particles interact."
"The student worked on his physics this session. He is beginning the process of reviewing for his final exam. The topics that we covered were statics and electrical fields. Finally, we discussed some basic concepts relating to drawing electric field diagrams and lines. After we finished with physics, we spent the rest of his section looking over a practice AP chemistry exam, and then moved on to work out a few problems on his practice calculus exam. The student was very focused during the session, and I believe we got a lot accomplished in terms of polishing off his solid understanding of physics, chemistry, and calculus."
"Today we went over how to find pH. Before we did this, we went over the Arrhenius and Bronsted-Lowry definitions of acids and bases before we did any calculations. Then we discussed how to conjugate base/acid pairs. I gave him a drawing of a network that showed how to convert from pH to [H+] to [OH-] to pOH. He seemed to grasp all these concepts very well after solving multiple problems. I am sending him a PDF of naming acids."
"The student and I focused on preparation for her upcoming final exam. We worked through predicting the products and mechanism questions. We refreshed her understanding of chair conformations, enantiomers, diastereomers, and meso compounds. She is definitely becoming more confident with the material and is better able to predict the products quickly and correctly."
