Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued reviewing for her geometry final, reviewing parallel and perpendicular lines and writing the equation given points and slopes. We also reviewed congruent triangles, isosceles and equilateral triangles, parallel lines and transversals, ASA, SSS, AAS triangle congruence theorems."
"The student and I went over topics that will be on her midterm which mostly covers triangles and their properties, and the properties of quadrilaterals. We also went over the application of this material."
"The student and I studied for her geometry test and we also studied vocabulary for her English test. We made flashcards and used the vocabulary words in sentences related to the book she was given."
"During our last session before the student's final exam, we reviewed all of the tests she has taken since the beginning of the school year. She was able to correct many of the mistakes she made on these tests fairly easily. She is able to use all of the material she has learned to answer the problems but she sometimes has trouble remembering formulas or theorems. She also needs extra practice on algebra and arithmetic with fractions and negatives. We're working slowly and checking her work to help her with this."
"We covered a variety of topics today, including: applying triangle sum properties, triangle sum theorem, exterior angle theorem, corollary to triangle sum theorem; applying congruence and triangles, third angles theorem, and properties of congruent triangles."
"Much like the other student I teach, this student was also struggling with some of the finer points of quadratics. We covered discriminants and what each particular result means. I explained the reasoning behind this which I always think is helpful to a solid understanding. We worked through some practice problems and I showed graphically what each solution meant. We also talked about the quadratic equation and how to apply it. It's not a complicated formula but you must memorize it and be prepared to use it. We worked through a few more practice problems and I think she has a solid understanding now."
"We reviewed the vocabulary we worked on last session and added more vocabulary related to parallel lines. We worked more on theorems related to parallel lines, for example, alternate interior angles are congruent when we know we have parallel lines, and vice versa. We also reviewed the students most recent assignment, which was an introduction to proofs. Her teacher provided work, and she had to justify each step with an appropriate property. We discussed various properties related to this work."
"Today we prepared for the student's upcoming Quiz. We reviewed lines, segments, rays, and angles. We also covered making measurements with a ruler and protractor. We continued with reflexive, symmetric and transitive relations. We also solved several problems and the student worked on his homework. He is getting full credit on any past homework assignments as well."
"The student and I worked through a worksheet he had been assigned for homework that covered a variety of topics, from algebra review to angle vocabulary, to if-then statements. Overall the student seemed to understand the material."
"The student and I worked on multiple methods for solving quadratic equations (square rooting sides, the quadratic formula). I have confidence in the student's ability to complete the problems."
"We found the geometry worksheet on the school website and a friend sent him pictures of the Spanish work sheet. We reviewed angles and definitions for his geometry quiz and did 3 pages of questions and answers in Spanish and reviewed for a quiz."
"We covered congruent, complementary, and supplementary angles. The student seemed to grasp the materials and through working out homework problems together was able to pick up on the concepts from the lesson quickly."
