Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did everything in math for the final. We went over formulas for surface area, volume, and area. We went over the geometry test and corrected the problems that the student got wrong, and I helped her understand why they were wrong, and how to do them correctly."
"The student and I covered exponents -their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of powers, especially when powers are negative. We did many practice problems, which he got the hang of with use of little tricks. We also went over the PEMDAS rules, which he seemed confident about and already knew pretty well."
"The student and I talked about more trig properties and definitions, including the unit circle, and calculating angles. The material is challenging, and she is doing a great job using the information given to find the right answer. I find the more we practice, the easier it is for her to do the work herself."
"Today we covered the Mean Absolute Deviation, Rational/Irrational Numbers and comparing expressions with exponents. The student now has a better understanding of what the Mean Absolute Deviation means and how to calculate it. The student had difficulty with adding and subtracting and explained that she has trouble with her calculator. We will work on this more next session. The student appears to be more comfortable and confident in all of these skills. I recommended doing practice problems to reinforce her learning today. Tomorrow we will work on Box and Whisker Plots, Scientific Notation, and Slope Intercept Form."
"I met with the student tonight. We played some math games tonight, a concentration type game with playing cards. The student does enjoy this game. After that, we played some math war games. The first one was a multiplication game, then we played an addition game. After that, I looked at some of the student's art work that he had brought home. It was eclectic and pretty good. After that, I had the student read from a "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" book. He read for about 15 minutes and then we called it a day. Overall, a good day."
"The student and I reviewed her study guide packet for her final exam. We went through all of the problems that she was having difficulties with, like tangent graphs, tangent on the unit circle, input and output problems, and domain and range. I've given her many formulas to put on her study sheet, so as long as she is able to practice memorizing the study sheet and do all of the practice websites we've collected over the past few sessions, I think she'll do well on her final exam."
