Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on both chemistry and geometry in our session today. In chemistry, we worked on nuclear fission and fusion. Geometry review involved looking over a sheet that included systems of two equations, equations for a circle, area of a sector, and solving word problems by creating equations."
"During this session we worked on problems for the student's upcoming geometry final. The problems were on the following topics: arc measures and angle measures of chords which are intersecting a circle, intersecting chord length, areas of polygons, and scale factors. Although the student mentioned that geometry isn't his favorite subject, during the session he was interactive and engaged with the material. The student does have some additional problems to do on his study prep."
"We spent the first half hour working going over the student's presentation for her finance class, doing some proofreading, and extra research about what it takes to become an architect. Afterwards, we started working through the review packet the student received for her math class. We were able to finish the first section together, and she was able to do most of it without much prompting on my part. I did notice that she needs to really pay attention to the signs of numbers when she is combining like terms. She needed a gentle reminder on the exponent rules, but was able to recall most of it herself."
"We covered goal setting and similar topics in health. The student handled everything fine today. He was positive today. It took a little bit to get him doing more than a little bit of work, but it was easy enough to keep him working. I asked leading questions and made suggestions again, but made sure that everything was his own work. He is going to keep working so we can have health and photography to work on. It was a good session. Obviously if we could work really quickly through the material it would be great, but in terms of getting him to understand what he's doing, I think it was a good day."
"The student and I did a lot of work with surface area and volume. At the beginning of our session she was very confused about the topic. By the end she was able to solve problems she had first had trouble with. I think I explained it different than her teacher and she was able to better understand the logical process of solving the problems."
"We were reviewing for the student's final that is next week. We went over some problems in his study packet, and focused on similar triangles, congruent angles and ratios of similar triangles. He knew most of it; I only had to walk him through two problems, and after one he was able to solve a similar one on his own. The last thing we covered was similar triangles. I showed him how to solve a problem, and then gave him a general step by step method to solving the problem. He said he felt comfortable with the material and he thinks the final will go well."
