Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took a diagnostic test for math and critical reading to prepare for testing. At our next session, I will analyze the results to gauge the student's initial starting point and guide future areas to focus on."
"Reviewed a practice test from a PSAT brochure. The student's performance was very consistent across the 3 sections, scoring a 63 in Critical Reading, 58 in Math, and 57 in Writing for a 178 total. She would like to improve her score to at least a 2100 or 2200 on the SAT, so she has some work to do. However, she has plenty of time to do so given that she is a sophomore. I addressed every question that she answered incorrectly or omitted and explained the math and writing questions step-by-step. I think she has forgotten a few of the math concepts from middle school, so with a little practice her score should improve. As for the grammar rules, I directed her to pages 101-102 of the SAT study guide. As far as the reading section, I am impressed by her extensive vocabulary and overall strong performance on reading comprehension. She will gain confidence as she becomes familiar with the style of questions and omits fewer problems. I also discussed the college application process with her and her parents."
"Today, we went through two math sessions and several sentence completion questions. The student performed very well on the math questions, averaging 16 correct out of 20. He completed the first 5-7 problems of each section very quickly, leaving him ample time for the remaining questions. He did have a problem with the "hard" questions, as rated by the book, which generally fell in the questions 16-20 range. These problems involved math concepts such as probability, symbols, and geometry."
