Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We did Physics and Pre-Calc review for a test and a quiz that the student has tomorrow. She has a strong grasp of calculus and algebra. Her main sticking point is with word problems and knowing how to get past being "stuck" on a problem."
"The student and I continued to review his progress in vocabulary. He has done well in looking up words that he missed. He shows ability to be able to write on topic well, but he needs to work on specific details and following the point-example-commentary paragraph structure. We will examine this issue further next week."
"We corrected a practice SAT chemistry test. We completed half a practice test and corrected it. Student knows the material very well, just needs to continue completing practice tests to minimize mistakes."
"The student and I spent all of the time working in his SAT test prep book. I explained more to him about test taking strategies and we practiced problems based on these strategies. As we are actually solving the problems, I am walking him through the process. This was only our second meeting but I am getting familiar with his learning style and we are progressing nicely."
"Today, the student and I went over any last minute questions, concerns, and problems he thought he had about the SAT's on Saturday. I told him to have fun the next two nights and relax before the test. He didn't have any real questions or concerns but is a little nervous. He should do wonderful on Saturday, and I ended with wishing him luck."
"The student and I worked on section 7.3 today in preparation for her test on Tuesday. Specifically, we worked on finding the sampling distribution mean and standard deviation. We also discussed the central limit theorem and when a normal approximation can be used to determine probabilities."
"Today we were reviewing for the student's geometry final. She had a review packet that she had started on, but had to skip some due to not remembering concepts or confusion over the methodology, so we worked on those for a while. We also went through all of her notes and made sure she remembered all of the different theorems and postulates and formulas for the year. She's doing quite well in the class, so I think that she'll be fine on the final."
"Covered Unit 1 topics. Polynomial simplification/factoring of regular polynomials, difference of squares, difference of cubes, summation of cubes. Gave extra problems to help for Unit test Monday. Make sure the details are accounted for, correct transfer of variables and signs. Started Unit 2 topics on radical exponents (third roots, etc.). Combination using variable-based approach."
"The student and I reviewed for his Algebra final. We went through the book and picked out problems from each section to work on. I had him work out those problems so that I could see if he understood the topics. We also worked through a review that he had from his teacher."
"Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry - worked on these sections with 3 test papers of 25 questions each. Discussed and cleared difficulties with adequate explanations, and gave him 2 further test papers to complete before the next session."
"We covered the reading section of the ACT today. We went over the four subject areas and the different types of questions in this section, then worked through a practice test. The student did very well with the time constraints. We reviewed questions by subject to finish the reading section off."
"In this lesson, we reviewed more for the student's exam tomorrow. We did practice problem on a variety of topics including, max/min optimization problems, related rates, implicit differentiation and curve sketching. He has a good understanding of the material."
