Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we practiced simple vocabulary using the word families -ate, -ail, -ame, -ay, -air, and -ain (long A words). We learned the vocabulary, the practiced writing them with fill-in-the-blank worksheets, and then played a memory game to gain familiarity. We ended that topic by practicing writing the full word from memory, and I assigned her the same for homework. The student is becoming familiar with the different ways to write the same English sound, and it's clear that practicing writing words from memory will improve her spelling and vocabulary. I've taken that into account for our Wednesday session. We began writing practice by reading a poem about "not having enough time" and writing five sentences about what we'd like to do. We made it through two sentences with a lot of coaching. The student is very engaged and a great conversationalist. We will focus on building her confidence to write her answers down by practicing more free writing."
"During this session we went over the adjectives, comparative and superlative. We did some practice exercises and reading."
"The student and I read some sample bar essays and she wrote an essay for a sample question. We reviewed her grammar and went over subject verb agreement with indefinite subjects."
