"After looking over her homework, I created some problems for her based on the topics that she had been working on: 1) Subtracting 6 digit number from another 6 digit number using the concept of borrowing. 2) Multiplying a 2 digit number by another 2 digit number 3) Multiplying a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number 4) Comparing the magnitude of 6 digit numbers 5) Comparing the magnitude of fractions. 6) Word problem using multiplication 7) Division given the area and width of a rectangular figure. We have to find the length."
"Student 1 improved his score on his math test retake. We continued to build their confidence with word problems by playing fraction word problem bingo. Although Student 2 shies away from competition, the minute she wins her confidence is boosted a hundred fold. I also stressed to them about using the wording of the problem to figure out which operation to use (i.e. "of" means multiply and "left" means subtract). This strategy seemed to help them a lot."
"*Worked on math homework worksheet (subtracting fractions) -We spent a while on this because she confused the process for subtracting fractions with reducing fractions. We started from scratch, and once she completed the worksheet we did more practice problems to ensure she understood. -We will practice subtracting and reducing fractions more. *Reviewed multiplication and division -continually improving and getting faster, which is great *Reviewed spelling words -still having issues with orange and shirt -has learned several of the words, such as different and please *Reviewed word endings and practiced sounding out and spelling words with similar ending sounds -showing improvement"
"The student and I worked on place value. We reviewed standard, expanded and word form, largely focusing on expanded form. He was able to work with much larger numbers today and much more independently. He broke apart and built numbers up to the ten thousands. Next we will work on comparing numbers, finding patterns in numbers and operations within numbers. I will be in touch with his teacher so we can pre-teach as much as possible. It was a great session and he should be very proud of all his hard work!"
"Today's session started off very well. We continued to practice with money-related word problems, specifically with determining change from a purchase. After minimal help to get him started, he hit the ground running and was able to complete the rest of the given problems with accuracy. I was impressed by his ability to retain the information. We finished the session by working on some long division, which we had not worked on since last week."
"The student and I reviewed material from mean and median from last week. We covered box and whisker plots and how to identify the best measure of center and measure of spread. I also showed him the next unit on stem and leaf plots. We covered the same concepts involving using the mean and median to identify the best measure of center and measure of spread."
