Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed exam anxiety as well as strategies to deal with stress levels during the exam. She is planning to take a practice exam this upcoming Sunday and I will see her next Wednesday. We talked about strategies that may help before and during her practice. We also went over Harmonic functions and kinetic motion problems in Physics. She has great books to review with. I discussed with her (as I do with all students) that she can call/email/text me anytime if she wants to discuss anything. No concerns. I will reevaluate after her practice exam on Sunday."
"The student and I covered questions from her review book that she had identified last night. We reviewed fluids, pressure, Bernoulli's principle, and the continuity equation. I helped her choose questions to complete prior to our next session on Tuesday, and we will review the ones with which she struggled then."
"Last week she took a practice test and got 34! That's spectacular, considering her goal is a 30. We had gone over a couple of the problems from that practice MCAT together so she thought part of her good score could be attributed to that, but still she did great! Her score on biology was and has been noticeably lower than the other sections so we mainly focused on that. Today we looked at the nervous system, different kinds of transport, action potentials and some genetics focused on Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. I sent her some review problems for homework."
"We reviewed concepts in the physical sciences section behind kinematics, Newton's law, and work-energy theorem. We applied these concepts to practice problems and discussed various questions that he had from prior reviews. We also discussed test format and strategies."
"For this session, we reviewed the physical sciences section of a practice exam. This practice exam included the topics of stoichiometry, reaction kinematics, and other topics in chemistry. It also covered some material from physics, particularly that relating to electricity. In addition we reviewed physics from an test prep book. The topics we covered included newton's laws of motion, which we solved some practice questions on. We also went over torque and solved related problems."
"We went over redox reactions, solutions, colligative properties, acids and bases, and titration passages in the workbook for our session today. Most of these passages and their topics were selected because the student had trouble completing them when she was independently studying. Some of the problems, for example converting Ka to pKa, were mathematical in nature, and she only needed a refresher on the properties of logs. Others involved recalling past principles we did, such as finding the pKa given a titration curve, and a small fraction was new material that we did not cover before, which included redox reactions. During our next session, we plan to go over electrochemistry as that is the next major topic that many students have trouble on, and I let her know of the appropriate passages that she could complete in the book prior to our session."
