Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed previous lessons and continued with coins, coins names, recognition, value of each coin and combinations of coins to make different amounts of money. All the amounts were under 1 dollar. We applied skip counting by 5s and 10s."
"Today the student worked on his Math homework and his project for school. We also discussed how he would schedule his study time. He will begin bringing homework at least two days prior to a quiz in order to review the content."
"The student and I reviewed large numbers and place values up to the trillions. We added 6-digit numbers to 6-digit numbers and expressed the answers both written and verbally. Also subtracted 6-digit numbers from 4- and 5-digit numbers and expressed the answers both written and verbally."
"The student and I began our session today by reviewing the worksheet problems she was able to complete during her vacation. We then moved on to work on reviewing concepts learned during 3rd grade. Today, our focus was on place value. She had some difficulty recognizing place value and we went over place value and how to determine a digit's value. We also went over rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand. She did well, but she required repetition before she truly understood the topic. We will continue to review place value to ensure that she understands it. Finally, for reading, she read a short story about the Titanic and we discussed sequencing the events. We reviewed how to underline important information as well as what was only related to sequencing. For homework, she should complete the worksheet pages that I left with her. She did a good job today!"
"I worked with the student on adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals, combinations and permutations, and probability. He began his school year this week, so we will now also be working on his homework assignments."
"This was our first session. We reviewed vertical motion problems and completing the square (briefly) for the student's test tomorrow. I feel as though his math skill are up to par; he just is not equipped with a good methodology to approach the problems. We worked to create step-by-step approaches for both problem types that he can use to his advantage on his test. I am working to put together a summary/ review sheet that I will email to his mother shortly."
