Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed the preterite tense and affirmative and negative tu commands. We also started to touch on indirect and direct object to allow for more complex sentences. Overall, this was a very good session. The student is feeling comfortable with both the preterite and commands, so as long we keep reviewing these concepts, she will be more than ready for her Spanish class. Since we have been able to cover a lot of material successfully, I can also begin to cover more advanced topics so she can be prepared and excel when they are encountered in her class."
"The student's writing was good today. We reviewed irregular verbs (-go verbs) the meanings, and conjugations. He did many activities, some written and some oral to reinforce what he learned. We read 4 short stories and answered questions in complete sentences. He is getting much better at answering in complete sentences and in the proper sentence structure. I left him extra practice with some irregular verbs and activities with possession and the verb 'ser'. I think he is doing very well and has retained a lot of information."
"Today the student and I began his lessons in grammar. He learned the conjugations for regular -ar verbs. We completed a few exercises where he practiced conjugating in sentences. He did a great job! We are going to focus on regular -er and -ir conjugations when we next meet on the 20th."
"We talked about an article in "noticias" and read and discussed it together. We worked on some of the sentences the student had written and talked about grammatical rules. We discussed the use of "fui" for both "ser" and "ir." Next session he will read a passage in English and translate it to Spanish to practice producing grammatically correct sentences."
"Today we began preparing for the pupil's midterm next week. We reviewed Chapter 1 and half of Chapter 2. He had finished the rest of the online course material and has an average grade of 91%. He is confident with most of the Chapter 1 material (time, greetings) and working to get a better grasp of the details. He is going to finish creating vocabulary cards and study them. I will give him mini practice tests tomorrow and possibly Monday. I am happy with his progress."
"I just had a Chinese lesson with this student. It was great since we talked a lot during the session. We reviewed a little bit at the beginning of our lesson and then we started to talk about something new in Chinese. We talked using some new Chinese vocabulary and some short phrases in Chinese. This is my last lesson with him and I am pretty sure he will be great in Chinese. I wish him luck!"
