Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"General review of verb forms and constructions, particularly involving the subjunctive mood of Latin. The student seems to understand the material fine, but needs clarification in some areas grammar-wise and more practice in general applying these. Will have a better idea of exactly where he is at once I see him translate."
"In this session we covered the dative case in more minute detail. Expanding on the examples in the book, I introduced uses like the dative of advantage, dative of indirect objects, etc. We completed morphological exercises (changing examples from nominative to dative) and began translation exercises before our time ran out. For extra practice I assigned the remaining translation exercises for the student to complete for next time."
"We began with Stage 10, which the student will be starting in the next class. We reviewed how to parse verbs and practiced with both irregular and regular declension patterns. We then practiced singular and plural pronouns, and went through two of the three stories, identifying and parsing verbs. Really great energy and very quick to learn!"
"Today, the student and I worked on completing his essay. He thought to include German as his second academic interest and this greatly improved the essay. From there, we researched the German department and inserted specifics which corresponded with the student's interests. Finally, we read through the essay, cutting as we went. This essay reads excellently now, conveying the student's interests in vivid detail."
"This session we studied for the student's Chapter 24 Latin vocabulary quiz, and reviewed verb synopses. We conjugated iubeo, iubere in all the indicative tenses. The student needed help to remember the tense endings, specifically the future tense."
"We discussed ways of pulling up his grades. I suggested that he talk to his teacher about what he can do, and I suggested that he review Latin regularly each week. We decided that he would try doing so on Tues/Thur for 45 mins. I gave him a short list of topics I felt he needs review with, to start from. We also reviewed some topics together."
