Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight the student and I met for two hours. We began by reviewing some past SAT practices tests I had given him. We have only one more meeting before he takes the SAT, so we are focusing on final strategies and reviewing vocabulary."
"We began the lesson with a bit of SAT Reading, discussing specific strategies for how to approach fill-in-the-blank questions. The student did very well with this; using the testing strategies, she was able to narrow down the choices to the correct answer or to two answers including the correct answer. I encouraged her to keep a list of the words she didn't recognize while practicing these questions. She should look them up before our next session. After fill-in-the-blanks, we went over her questions on the homework. For the remainder of the session, we reviewed sequences and did a pretty extensive review of functions as well."
"The student and I worked on SAT writing for an hour and algebra II for an hour (in preparation for his upcoming compass test). He did a very good job on the writing test. As we studied math for his test, a few information gaps became obvious, but they were quickly filled in and he answered every question correctly!"
"I met with the student for the first time and spoke to her about her needs as a student. We covered the entire English section of the ACT by doing that section of the practice test together over the two hours. I showed her the best way to use the book provided as a study resource so that she can do her own work. We will meet again after the first time she takes the ACT to cover the remaining material."
"We focused on reading comprehension for the first half. Overall, the student is making improvements in reading comp. Because she does have plenty of time until her test, I feel that she will be able to get her reading comp score up significantly. We then worked on charts and graphs."
"We went over the Verbal, Writing, and Essay Sections and some Math from the student's practice test. She performed very well in the Verbal and the Writing Sections. She only seemed to struggle with finishing math questions in a timely manner. She knows the material and the concepts, but we need to find ways to work more efficiently and accelerate her thinking. She feels that with practice, she can achieve this. I have asked her to complete some additional sections for homework."
