Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I continued to go over verbal questions, and also began our intensive focus on vocabulary words. We went over a set of words, then focused on strategies for remembering the words we've been learning. She is going to continue studying a small number -- 20 or so -- words per day, and we will check up on how this strategy is going next week."
"I quizzed the student on vocabulary terms and graded an issue essay she wrote. We went over ways to increase her issue essay score. She then took a practice verbal section and we discussed strategies for her to improve scores on reading comprehension."
"We began our session by going over some math problems that she had attempted and was confused about. We then talked briefly about the studying she had done since our last meeting. We next began to go through some Verbal practice problems from her GRE study book. She was doing well with these problems. There were some questions that we struggled with, but, by studying vocabulary, She should do well on this portion of the test. We also discussed how the strategy for these problems is somewhat different from the problems we had attempted previously."
"I covered basic GRE Verbal test taking techniques, challenges regarding the computer-based exam (no paper, notes and other outlines had to be typed, etc.). We also went over the text that was recommended to her by tutors, and we covered numerous question types including argumentative and logical essay, fill-in-the-blank issues, and questions that had 2 correct answers."
"Did a practice exam Verbal section. Discussed the essays further, and worked on brainstorming. The student is doing well in her progress for the test. It's time for her to take a full timed test, and I gave her a resource for one."
"Today we focused on a couple different aspects of idiomatic English in our pursuit of GRE excellence. We talked about the cultural connotations of several grammar rules/ phrases. We spent a significant amount of time talking about how when someone says, "My food wasn't terrible," it can really mean that it IS terrible, but the speaker is uncomfortable expressing it. The student and I also went over many items from his practice exam. We agreed that he should take another practice exam before our next session as well."
