Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I began the student's lesson by reviewing her spelling and vocabulary words. Because she did so well, I gave her a few additional words to study over the next week. We then reviewed her writing assignment from the previous week and discussed all the ways that it could be improved and why those changes were necessary. Finally, I had her do some timed writing outlines that we will build off of next session."
"We spent this session practicing the various vocabulary groups that we worked on last time. First, I quizzed the student on some of the terms that we worked on previously in order to gauge what she remembered and what she needed to go over."
"During this 1.5 hour session, the student focused largely on completion of his Algebra assignments. He did not request extensive help for this assignment. Upon completion of this homework, he began working on the short story, "The Scarlet Ibis" The student and the tutor went over the themes associated with this short story in preparation for his upcoming assignments. The next session is scheduled for Friday Sept. 5th."
"The student and I discussed poetic format (syllables, rhyming schemes, and structures). We reviewed character arcs from his latest in class reading. He has to finish chapter 1 of his independent text, so I will have more to evaluate once he does."
"The student and I talked about her long term plan for applying to college, and we began working on her quarterly paper for her honors British Literature class. We began by reading through the poems she has to choose among for the topic of her essay."
"During the session, I was able to work on some grammar problems with the student. Then, I worked with him on writing sentences, and then a coherent paragraph. My plan is to work with him in reading, building vocabulary, and grammar to enhance his writing. I shared this plan with his Mom and she is all for it. Overall, this session was really important for me to assess his skills overall in English. At the next meeting, we will plan on 1:30 minutes."
