Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Focus on Critical Reading. Differences between what and why ("serves to", "purpose of") questions. Author intent. Completed 2 in class practice sections, pausing to discuss how to map and approach particular passages as he went. He is doing better with knowing when to skip vocab questions, and also with not reading too much into passage questions or making too many inferences."
"Today we reviewed for Friday's quiz by doing lots and lots of practice problems. Each time fewer mistakes were made, and the student was able to explain her methods thoroughly, showing a strong grasp of the material."
"The student did a practice test. We went through some of the sections she did (one math, one critical reading) and looked at where her errors arose. She reports feeling pretty confident about math and writing but wants to work more on the critical reading."
"Today the student and I very briefly reviewed the DNA replication material that we had covered yesterday. Afterward we delved into the next couple of chapters covering gene expression and its regulation. We discussed in detail the process by which genes are expressed into proteins (transcription, processing, translation), and then very generally discussed methods of inducing or repressing the gene."
"During this session we focused on chemistry. The student has an exam tomorrow on equilibrium, thermo chemistry, and redox reactions. We reviewed his notes and did a few practice problems. It would have helped if we were able to do more practice problem, but I felt that he had a good grasp of the material. I told him that he should do a few more problems to better prepare for the exam. Overall, this session went well."
"We focused in this session on single-stage, multi-stage, and pipelined processors. We covered instruction execution time and the issues involved in pipelining."
