Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through a percent yield problem from her chemistry homework. It was a complex problem but she should be able to complete the rest of that homework. We then switched to physics and went over one assignment on light and another on climate change. She catches on well and has been able to complete several assignments in algebra over the weekend."
"Molarity and molality were discussed along with key terms for mixtures, both homogeneous and heterogeneous as there was some confusion between examples for the different types of mixtures. The student is very persistent in his studies, always asks insightful questions, and delves into his coursework with enthusiasm. I feel like his interest in chemistry is growing, which will benefit him in the long run in school as well as his career. As always, it is a pleasure to work with such an accomplished and intelligent student."
"The student and I reviewed for her test. It will specifically be on gas laws, both ideal and real. I supplied her with a practice sheet, and we went over some other practice problems. She was able to perform these problems with relatively little error. I brought a practice problem sheet for her to work on. I have no concerns from the session."
"During this lesson, the student and I went through her post-lab questions, which consisted of calculating molar mass and using that to determine how many moles of substance they measured (for 10 different substances) during their lab class. We also converted the number of moles to representative molecules. After completing the lab, she had some questions on her worksheet which contained questions related to those on her lab, as well as percent composition and empirical formulas. She did alright with the multiple choice section, but didn't know how to determine an empirical formula when given the percent composition or determine which would be an empirical formula or calculate percent composition if given a compound. Although we went over it, I think that it will need to be reviewed again."
"The student and I covered Stoichiometry. No new grades were discussed in our session. He struggled somewhat with knowing how to set-up the problems to correctly solve and calculate the answer. We worked on material involving limiting reactant that was not covered as yet in class to give him a heads up of what is to come. I left him with some extra practice so he would be sure he understood the work. I have no concerns from this session."
"We reviewed the student's chapter 14 test that covered stoichiometry and ideal gas laws. She is now ahead of her class and hopefully had maintained a 96% in the class so she won't have to take the final!"
