Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We had a wonderful session!! The student had taken diagnostic tests at school, so we went over that. She reviewed science and reading with mom at home. We went over the ones she had missed. We spent the greater part of our session on Science. I gave her some testing tips to help her. She took a practice test with me and got 90%!! We finished with reading practice. I left a reading test with her to practice. We will meet again on Friday."
"For our first session, we reviewed the missed problems from his practice ACT test (from the ACT test prep book from the ACT test makers). I think he can do really well on the ACT vs. the SAT; he's a little scattered but very intelligent and creative. He scores around 24, and is hoping to raise it to the 30s. On the writing section, I helped him differentiate when to use who/whom, and how to recognize errors with singular vs. plural verb usage. On the reading section, we need to figure out a strategy on inserting transitional sentences to passages. On the math section he just needs to review and practice problems. On the science section, I recommended that he focus on figure axes/titles, compare multiple studies/ experiments when prompted. Mostly he has trouble with time use, so we are going to focus on time-saving strategies to begin. I assigned test #1 to be completed in 4 different sessions for us to review next week."
"We worked on math and English during this session. We began going over the test's English section, which is a strength for her typically."
"For this session we focused on reading and math. The student did very well on the reading sections. With the math, she also did very well. I assigned her a practice test to take between now and our next session. We'll do grammar and writing next time."
"Worked with the student on reading techniques and math questions, reviewed punctuation, and also reviewed results of her practice English ACT with her school."
"We focused on general strategies for each section because this was the last session before the exam. For the remainder of the session, Student 1 did a Critical Reading diagnostic and Student 2 did two Math (no calculator) diagnostics. Then we worked on specific problem areas, such as lines, trinomials, and systems of equations."
