Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for his test tomorrow. He seems to have a firm grasp of integration, so we mainly focused on his weakness with utilizing a function graph to determine values for integrals. Other than that, minor issues were discussed as we worked through his review problems."
"We covered topics in trigonometry, such as the law of sines/cosines and also different formulas for the area of a triangle. The student was already pretty solid on most of the topics covered, though there was one topic about whether or not a triangle can be uniquely determined with the given information which I tried to use numerical examples to explain. While doing the problems, I tried to give some small tips that can be applied to many problems. Overall, I think she will be fine with the material we covered."
"Today, we covered algebraic expressions with a variable. The student received his mini-quiz, and he got a 4/4. He's been working on word problems that include expressions, and he got all the questions right on his practice sheet that was for homework the day before. He was initially tripping up with how to handle a subtraction sign in the distributive property, but he vastly improved. He finished with a positive attitude towards the material. In terms of strategies or study skills, I let him know that -20 + 40 = 40 - 20. Despite being simple, this can come as a fairly large realization to anyone who is adding/subtracting negative numbers for the first time. It also makes things simpler. I left him with a few distributive property problems with a variable mixed in."
"The student and I worked on solving system of equations by graphing. She understands the concept about how to solve the system and just needs to remember to slow down when solving problems."
"This session focused on vectors, dot products, and cross products. I introduced many different concepts, such as finding the angle, length, area, and how to prove different properties of vectors."
"He worked on a worksheet that covered all methods used to solve systems of equations. He was comfortable using graphing and elimination, but needed a refresher on using substitution. He got through most of the worksheet. For chemistry, we worked ahead in his notes on naming chemical compounds."
