Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we read three books and she wrote what she dreams of. I utilized a timer to help the student to perform faster."
"On Tuesday, we tried reading two books to help the student concentrate a little more. Spacing out work with reading helped her settle a little more."
"Today we reviewed some of the concepts taught last week. We focused on letter recognition and letter sounds using letter cards. I introduced vowels and short vowel sounds."
"We worked on phonics: long and short vowels sounds. We also started working on the silent e. The student is struggling with pronunciation and vocabulary, and I used a lot of pictures on google images to explain unknown vocabulary. For homework she should review the sounds and review the passages we covered today."
"Today the student finished revising her unit test (fictional narrative) assignment. We reviewed the proofreading process and my evaluation of the assignment. Overall, she fulfilled each of the criteria I was checking for, demonstrating competence and even fluency with the process, but not yet mastery. We continued with the next chapter of the writing workbook: informative writing. We read and discussed the features of informative writing, who writes it, its purpose, and its audience. We continued vocab work with suffixes, this time with the comparative -er and -est, focusing on the spelling changes words can undergo when adding those suffixes. For spelling, we completed the fill-in-the-blank exercise using long e words. Spelling and vocabulary seem to be improving. She still struggles at times with using articles, but she's made progress."
"We worked on his alphabet, both speaking and writing the letters. I read out loud and had the student read along with me out of a few books. He also worked on his own learning device. He promised to work on listening and continuing to do a great job!"
