Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"There was no present homework in the student's classes as it was the end of the quarter. He indicated to me that he has an A+ in geometry, and a most likely a strong A in chemistry. We used our time to preview the harder similarity triangular questions. The problems focused on proportions in the context of similar triangles. He quickly saw the general strategy and was able to solve even the most difficult similar triangle problems. I believe we can start to preview some material at the end of each session."
"The student is doing very well with her geometry work. After having switched to the new teacher and class, she is doing fantastic and is much happier. She is currently reviewing for a quiz that is coming up in class, and she is having no issues in being able to do the work and complete her homework."
"In this session, I introduced the student to the rules pertaining to when and how to add and subtract exponents. I also introduced him to negative exponents and what they represent. He solved problems to get practice applying these concepts."
"Student 1 worked on his Chapter 3 test review and Student 2 worked on his proof worksheet. Both have their chapter 3 test next week. Both showed much more confidence regarding working through proofs, including visualizing overlapping corresponding triangles."
"For this session, we went through each of the chapters that will be on the student's Geometry test on Tuesday and determined what he needed more practice with. We made a list of each of the parts we needed to review, then went back and explained them, as well as did a few problems on each one. Some of the topics included: conditional statements, making postulates from diagrams, writing equations (from a graph or perpendicular line), classifying a triangle in a coordinate plane, SSS/ASA/AAS congruence postulates, triangle congruence, medians and altitudes, and rotations/translations of shapes."
"We spent today reviewing congruence with triangles. We went over all theorems and practiced postulates. Her teacher had emailed me a worksheet, so we went over that as well. She told me she has an A in geometry now!"
"Covered Chapter 4: Triangle Congruence; Sect. 4.1: Classifying Triangles; Sect. 4.2: Ange Relationships in Triangles; Sect. 4.8: Isosceles and Equilateral Triangles; H.W. p. 227 #4 - 22 even; #30, 32, 42 (Sect. 4.2); Geom GL Notes 4.2 Worksheet."
"During this session, I worked with the student on her homework for section 4.7. In the future, my goal would be to finish assignments during the session or at least address each problem in case she has any concerns or questions. We also reviewed her corrected test questions from last week. She successfully reworked the problems she had initially missed and gained additional points on her exam."
"We covered multiple topics, including transformations of shapes, transversals, and triangle congruence. I saw that the student has recently earned multiple high scores on quizzes and assignments, and has been able to raise his grade. I do not think is struggling with anything in particular, but would benefit from shifting his focus to using his knowledge to write proofs. I asked him to continue practicing the problems I gave him about triangle congruence and to make flashcards for the theorems, postulates, and definitions that he'll use to write his theorems. I have no concerns."
"Today we covered coordinate transformations to prepare the student for her exam tomorrow. She made a 95% on her last geometry exam after our previous session so that was good news. She had a good grasp on the material and we talked about some tricks and techniques to use on the exam. I also helped her with a few chemistry questions that she had over learning polyatomic ions. This was a great session!"
"We reviewed for her upcoming test. We went through important proofs and talked about the steps she routinely missed. She has trouble remembering exactly what the postulates and theorems are called, and we talked about making herself note cards to use as a reference from here on out. We also reviewed how to find the distance between two parallel lines and the distance between a line and a point."
"The student has a test coming up, so we went over the study guide he was given to prepare. It dealt with finding angles in triangles and doing work on congruence. We finished listening to some Spanish dialogues to see how much he could understand. He did very well with all his work. He is a smart kid, and very intuitive."
