Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was the first session with the student. The main focus he indicated was generally helping with math and chemistry topics on an as-needed basis, as his math and chemistry teachers at school are a bit lacking in their explanatory skills. We covered the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines today, as well as reviewing a math test he recently took. We also took time to review how to use a calculator that he will be purchasing, and will be using for math class going forward. I feel that I have a very good rapport with the student, and am looking forward to continuing to teach him."
"The student had a test today so we spent the start of the session going over problems from the test to see if she answered them correctly. The student did not have any specific material she wanted to cover so we practiced solving complex exponential and logarithmic functions which she had been struggling on in the past. Once she was showing a stronger understanding of the topic we moved onto power functions which will be the next subject she will be covering. Her teacher just started to mention the topic so this early practice should give her a head start on the subject"
"Today the student and I finished his math homework and started his history homework. He is doing very well with math. He has been able to complete the last few assignments with very little to correct. I believe he will be able to continue with this momentum when the subject matter changes to a new topic. I left him with the assignment to complete his history homework and continue work on his science project."
"The student worked on his math homework, reviewing and learning the concepts of geometry such as trapezoids, parallelograms, and other polygons. He also worked on time and word problems. He read to me with his poetry book he is using for his report. We also played a math game."
"For this session, the student was introduced to context clues as a reading strategy. He practiced using context clues in several short paragraphs. He did very well with this concept. Great job! He also wanted to have help editing and revising his book report. We worked on editing his summary paragraph. He had a great start with a good main idea statement. We discussed staying on the topic of his main idea sentence and revised the details in his paragraph so that they connected to the main idea."
"The student and I worked on reading, sight words and fluency for the first 30 minutes of our session. She read me two stories and did a great job with expression and sounding out the words. I was so excited to hear that she is reading at a second grade level now! For the last 30 minutes, we worked on math skills. She did a color by sum worksheet and we finished our session with an addition card game. She maintained a great, positive attitude throughout our session, and I am excited to work with her again next week."
