Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is working on volumes of solids. She is doing well in the unit so far but said she is struggling with certain types of problems. We worked on these problems together first, then I had her do a problem herself so that I knew she understood the concepts. She continues to bring a good attitude to the work and seems to enjoy math, so that is encouraging."
"Today, the student and I focused on her Geometry assignment for today and moved ahead an assignment as preparation. She did not display much of any struggle during the session and maintained a positive, well focused attitude the entire time. She was very patient with working through problems and finding the answer. The student has a chapter (half) test next Thursday so visiting with her next Wednesday will give us a good chance to review any areas (such as permutations) that take a little extra time to study."
"The student worked problems finding the circumference of a circle and the area of a circle. Then he worked problems finding the area of a circle, rectangle, trapezoid and rhombus. He also worked problems finding the area of a regular polygon, including hexagons and triangles."
"We reviewed the last two exams the student had. They covered quite a bit on limits as well as derivatives. The derivative problems asked a lot on tangent lines and covered all kinds of complex functions. The limits were tricky, but we covered everything that he didn't understand during the exams, and he feels prepared for his final."
"We worked on some problems that involved left hand and right hand approximation to integrals. We discussed which rectangles give you a larger area depending on whether or not the function is increasing or decreasing. We also used a graphing calculator to see if a particular function was increasing or decreasing over an interval. We also took some definite integrals to solve some problems that asked for distance traveled from velocity functions."
"We reviewed many calculus concepts for the student's final, going over all of her past tests and midterms to make sure she's prepared! I feel confident that she will do well on her final after our session."
