Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on math review and essay style issues. We also focused on challenging style issues in sentence error questions."
"First we covered the diagnostic test the student had taken. He is very strong in math and needs the most practice with reading, but I already noticed an improvement with his sentence completion after we spent the first session covering tips for that section. We went over each answer by talking through the logic that he used to arrive at that answer. We discussed methods to mark up reading passages more effectively so as to refer back to them more easily. We also reviewed some helpful formulas for the math section. I gave him a few words out of his vocab flashcards to prepare for next time. I also gave him a chapter to read out of his SAT book, including practice drills."
"The student and I met for the first time today to work on SAT prep. I first directly inquired as to her comfort with reading, writing, and math. I informed her about the layout of the test and a little as to the content. We then started working on practice material so that I could better understand her grasp of the content as well as how she works through the material. We spent most of our time on a math section, and had a little time for a reading section at the end. I got a lot of useful information from this session, and I am going to think hard as to how to tailor future sessions specifically for her needs. She is quite proficient with the math, though she could definitely use some more practice/refresher material, which I will provide. Next week, I intend to finish the reading section we were working on and move to another math section."
