Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the first student, we reviewed how to write the word "heart", then we did some drawings using different color pens to identify the colors she learned from the last time. I also added 2 new colors this time: pink and green. then she learned how to write the word "person". After that we played games. The second student likes to play with his "house building" toy, so we played together, during the play, I taught him how to say "airplane" and "it's raining". then we played "hide and seek" where I kept saying the phrase "where are you?" and "I'm here!" Then finally today he identified the first 3 numbers in Chinese."
"Per his mom's instructions, sessions with the student will mostly focus on conversational Chinese. Conversations today covered numbers, colors, animals, fruits, vegetables, objects, and hobbies (fishing, camping). We made a pretend conversation between a cab driver(him) and passenger(me). We talked about Bird Paradise, other parks in Singapore, climate, etc."
"The initials and finals in Lesson 4 and characters in Lesson 3 were introduced in this session. The phonetic and semantic sides were reinforced. The student was able to use "shi" to introduce himself and others, and the student was encouraged to practice reading and writing the basic characters in Lesson 3. J, q, x are difficult to read for English-speaking students, but the student was able to read them perfectly."
