Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered number series and simple story problems. We reviewed her last test scores. During our session she worked very hard and was honest about the material and her understanding. She's agreed to spend more time practicing, which will help increase her mastery of the material."
"Worked with the student on factoring, working with parabolas, graphing, and utilizing the quadratic equation. He understood the material."
"The student and I went over vertex form of polynomial equation: a(x-h)^2+k form. We also graphed 3 similar polynomials on the same coordinate system to visually see differences amplitude, h value, and k value provide."
"We continued going through the review packet provided to the student by the math department. This part of the packet involved word problems with exponential growth/decay, compound and simple interest, and Newton's law of cooling. At first, he had a hard time with the half-life problems. I then showed him the shortcut equation for it, and he seemed to do a lot better with it. After we finished the whole packet, I went back through and selected some representative problems from the packet that I think would be fair to ask on a final. He started grinding through them and was doing very well as he took good notes for himself while going through the packet. I ended up having to leave before he was able to get through the whole list I picked out. I feel that he is prepared to do well on this final. I'm excited to hear about the final grade."
"With the student having a history exam the next day, we focused on going over a chapter study guide. The student would work through some questions of his study guide, and I would ask him questions about it afterwards. I would also clarify questions that he couldn't find the answers to. While we were able to review a decent amount of his study guide, I let his mother know that he would need to study at least for another hour to ensure he is well-prepared for the exam."
"The student did not have new homework since our last session, so we reviewed the previous chapter focused on rational functions. She grasps the idea of simplifying functions well. We will work more on graphing, as it is a weak point. I showed her a step by step approach to graphing that seemed to clear things up."
