Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Because the book has been introducing a lot of new information in chapter 5, we've slowed down the pace a bit in order to focus on comprehension and retention. We focused on translating the story in section 5B and drilled 3rd declension nouns. I assigned a fair bit of work for a review over the weekend, including English-Latin translation and grammar exercises."
"Continued reviewing case endings, verb forms, and subjunctive verbs due to no additional homework being given for the weekend. The student's understanding of the case endings and forms seems to be improving, though more practice on internalizing the different endings and forms are needed in general."
"The student and I worked through Lesson 7/Chapter 6 today. The lesson focused on indirect questions, which he seems to grasp well. The past tenses sometimes become jumbled, but he has honed his verb parsing skills and can answer grammar questions quickly and accurately. Vocabulary is still a challenge for the student, so at his request, we spent the remainder of our time coming up with mnemonic devices and taking the time to write out the Latin words from the translation that escaped his memory. The student is always a pleasure to work with and always remains focused."
"The student and I actually ended up working on math for the entire session. We were factoring polynomials and working with exponents. There were also some negative rules. He is doing all right with the material and I think he'll do fine on the test. It was a productive session. We will meet again next Sunday."
"The student and I worked on the relative pronouns which are on his quiz tomorrow. He was already very comfortable with most of the forms so we focused on sorting out the few he was missing (and methods to remember them for his quiz) in addition to practicing recalling the forms by different methods. Additionally, I created and emailed a PDF containing third and fourth conjugation charts and helpful hints, a chart of the uses of the ablatives (and what prepositions they take if any) and example sentences/forms he can work on."
"We practiced outlining essays. We took one of the student's essay and outlined it onto a pre made worksheet. The student at first had difficulty staying focused on one idea, but quickly picked up the formula of one idea per paragraph. They now have a copy of the worksheet. We will focus on Latin next."
