Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session went very well, as usual. We focused on monomials, polynomials and exponents/scientific notation and he picked up the concepts very quickly since most of the material was an in-depth review. I am confident he will continue to do well on the exam. We will also look more into the other topics such as Reading and Vocabulary and soon we will move back to Quantitative Reasoning."
"The student and I worked on finishing the preparation for his speech that is due on Monday. We worked on citing useful quotations, finding suitable statistical information, and ordering the information in a logical manner. We discussed presentation and ways to deliver the speech effectively."
"We did one hour of bio and one hour of algebra. First we started with algebra. She had trouble more often than not on how to isolate the variable so we did some problems like that. We reviewed all her wrong answers on quizzes and tried to figure out what she did wrong during the quiz. We then moved on to bio and reviewed the list of terms that her teacher gave to her as a reference for her next exam."
"The student and I edited the essay he wrote for this session. We worked on making his intro concise and specific by choosing key words from the prompt and using vivid verbs. We also discussed and corrected subject-verb agreement and how to make connections between paragraphs. The final lesson the student learned was how to be true to and consistent with his thesis. I also showed him an online thesaurus because he was concerned about using words repetitively."
"We focused mainly on the conjugations, beginning with '-ar' verbs. The student did some practice drills for which conjugation is used with different pronouns. We also reviewed the conjugations of ser, estar, and ir. He was, by the end of the session, able to correctly fill out a chart of conjugations without assistance. We also discussed the construction 'ir a + infinitive'. He will need to continue practicing regularly to build confidence in conjugating verbs."
"The student is such a pleasure to work with! I showed him how to search on his Mac and toggling. We recovered photos that were in his trash bin, and I showed him how to drag them to iPhoto. I also showed him how to use the mouse and misc. keyboard functions."
