Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the student's goals and previous experience. We went through some hypothetical social situations in Spanish. He wrote down a few of the new words he learned today. I made a few suggestions for him to listen and watch television or movies in Spanish. I believe using a textbook as a guide will be very helpful for him and will research and suggest an appropriate textbook."
"This evening was my first meeting with the student and it was a real pleasure to work with her. We will be working on oral conversation in Spanish as she wants to regain her ability to understand Spanish on a conversational level. This is a personal goal for her."
"I didn't know her exact level so I started with some conversation starters to get ourselves warmed up. She has a very high level of Spanish and is mainly concerned with practicing conversations. We then moved into a list of common Ecuadorian terms that she will encounter while she is studying abroad. I then gave her an opportunity to ask any questions about Ecuador. Overall it was a great session."
"The preterite of regular and irregular verbs. Glossary of export and import terms. Compared article from Chilean newspaper about export return on the exportation of cherries for the current fiscal year. The student would like to learn Chilean slang for conversational purposes."
"We reviewed conjugating verbs in the present tense and days of the week. I had him do exercises on definite and indefinite articles and exercises on making nouns plural with their corresponding article. We already reviewed pronunciation of vowel sounds. He studied and it is evident."
"With both students, we went through writing characters from a set of flashcards to see how much they remembered character writing. I encouraged them to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I corrected their homework sheets about writing characters and made sentences to make sure they know how to use the words or phrases. I pointed out the ones that are easy to confuse with other characters that look very similar. I gave them homework sheets about character writing. I encourage them to practice more writing characters on their own time. We watched a video of "the three little pigs" in Chinese from Aesop's fable story series. We will learn more new words from this video in next session."
