Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed magnetism, on which he has a quiz this Friday, and geometric, sequence, composition, and inverse functions, on which he has a test Friday."
"The student and I continued to work through his workbook in preparation for his statewide exam. This session, we covered the remaining lessons, through Chapter 18."
"The student and I worked to develop her understanding of arc length and arc measure on circles. Hopefully, we can develop a strong base for this chapter so that she better understands her teacher's lessons in class."
"The student and I worked to study several concepts associated with Chapter 4. We prepared for the test that was going to occur on Friday of this week. He was able to solve a majority of the problems and I chose to continually practice the problems that he was not doing as well on. He seemed to do better on sections 4.1 to 4.3, but still struggled with 4.4 and 4.6. I also chose to teach him 4.5 since he will be learning it tomorrow. I am confident in his ability to retain what we practiced today."
"Today we focused on getting both students ready for their Chapter 4 test. We worked through the study guides that their teachers provided, focusing on diagrams and proofs that use isosceles triangles and exterior angles of triangles, as the girls struggle with those exercises the most. We also spent time reviewing the HL theorem, as I realized that both girls have a tendency to miss questions that use the HL theorem and instead say SAS postulate. After we finished going through the study guide, we went back to their textbook and worked through further exercises."
"We reviewed for her Wednesday quiz by doing a few proof problems about all the different congruency theorems for triangles. We also refreshed some past geometry knowledge about angles that result from a transversal of parallel lines. The student did much better this lesson than from previous weeks by writing down the rules we'd use at the beginning of every problem. This isn't the best habit for exam time or improving speed, but it seemed to really help solidify what we were talking about and what the possible answer choices could be. Re-doing some past assignments to study for Wednesday would be best and finish making flash cards for all the recent material. These will be a great thing to have when it comes time to take the final and recall a semester's worth of topics."
