Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student received a 100% on last quiz, which is exciting news. Today we reviewed her homework and worked on extra problems on the same topics. We covered derivatives and integration of ln and e. Also, did some one extrema problems to continue to review past material. Student has a test on Monday that we are going to be prepping for on Sunday."
"We covered material for his test tomorrow. We went over graphing piecewise functions and composite functions. We extensively studied the composite functions. I had to break it down and describe it to him using a different substitution method."
"Today we went over questions the student had from her homework and textbook regarding polynomial functions. Generally she understood the concepts well and was able to do the homework problems. One question she had just involved a simple math error, which she corrected when she worked through the problem again. The other detail we cleared up was regarding whole numbers versus integers. I explained that a polynomial is defined by whole number (i.e. 0 and positive numbers) exponents. She was initially confused thinking that there could not be negative exponents at all, but I was able to explain that a function could have negative exponents it just wasn't a polynomial function then."
"The student is so excited to learn. We worked on reading, writing, and segmenting words in the -ap, -ag, and -at word families. We did several worksheets with words in the -at family, used magnets to build CVC words, and practiced putting spaces between words in a sentence. He very successfully read a Level C book. He read the book very well, self corrected when he made mistakes, and used the pictures and words to help him answer comprehension questions after reading. One area for growth for him is writing. Strengthening his fine motor skills will help him grasp writing utensils better, which will improve his writing. Next week, I would like to read a higher level book with him; practice the sight words been, our, where, were, and want; and continue to work on his writing."
"The student is ahead of the game in area and perimeter. Measurement in both standard and metric systems are coming up. We previewed her text materials and created charts to show the different measurement systems and how they relate to each other."
"We had a great session today. We worked on word problems and I incorporated the concepts of multiplication and division into each problem. The student did very well and handled each problem, working through each to come to the correct solution."
