Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed a bit of slope intercept form, going over the student's homework. Then we looked ahead at point-slope form."
"I worked with the student on the topics of taking square roots to solve polynomials and completing the square."
"We reviewed similar triangles -- setting up and solving proportions. We previewed proportions that come from a right triangle with altitude scenario."
"We covered graphing of lines, finding the slope, and solving for perimeter and area. This was followed by PEMDAS review, as these were the topics in his homework. The student's use of PEMDAS had greatly improved, and he completed the homework almost perfectly on his own. He struggled a bit with slope, but otherwise did fine. We then proceeded to review for his test the next game. I wrote up a 40 question practice test full of problems similar to the ones on his homework. This covered exponents, percents/ decimals/ fractions, GCF and LCM, proportions, and slope. The student was very focused during the session. I think he is doing well and seems to be retaining the material well."
"I met with the student for our first session. We spent a large part of our time getting to know each other and talking generally about his interests and needs. I did search some practice algebra problems for us to work on, so I could try to gauge where he left off in pre-algebra, and perhaps provide some early review, but he worked through all of these problems with considerable ease. We agreed to meet again next week."
"The student has a test on Wednesday. We did 1/2 of the study packet given to us. There was 1 major misunderstanding about adding and subtracting fractions but once we worked out multiple problems and hammered out the misunderstanding she did the problems easily."
