Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced ACT English and Reading. The student had a good day but missed a few of the problems she normally answers correctly."
"Practiced pacing of science portion, as well as review of geometry. Science time is consistently within the constraints of the actual test."
"Today the student and I met to work on ACT prep. We started by outlining where we were and what we could possibly work on. We then delved straight into the English section to work on timing strategies. In our last session she had shown a propensity for finishing these sections very early, so I implemented a strategy to slow her down: I made her take 30 seconds for each problem, and 9 total minutes for each passage. This seems to have worked well, as she was making fewer mistakes and then using the time she had left to correct those she made. Overall she finished with a score that was a few points higher than that on her previous ACT. What's more a couple of her mistakes were really simple misreadings of the question; having seen that type of problem she knows to look for it when she takes the ACT. We rounded out our lesson with some math. She is good at math. I'm going to write up (and find) some problems to focus on math topics with which the student has more difficulty."
