"Math Diagnostic: Practiced geometric comparisons and went over the student's test. Verbal Diagnostic: Practiced analogies, antonyms and wrote down strategies, relationships, and definitions."
"We covered analogies today, and then the student took a practice test, and he scored an 80%. He is a very sweet kid and is very bright."
"Tonight we reviewed what to do if faced with a difficult reading passage. We covered looking for the main idea, details that pop out, and the tone of the passage. We then practiced these techniques with an assessment article found online. When we went over the answers to the assessment we covered what the metaphorical, rhetorical, formal, and ambiguous language looks like in a reading. I asked him if he was working on asking himself questions after he read for homework, or for his entertainment. He told me he has always been able to summarize readings if he needed to, but now focuses on important details, and the main idea of what he reads. He showed me his skill for summarizing by telling me about the recent book he read. He was able to summarize it to me in full detail. I also asked him reading comprehension questions as he was summarizing, and he was very capable of answering those as well. I told him to continue working on this skill, and to work on this with his homework. We finished up by going over root words to assist him with his vocabulary. I was very impressed with his summary of the book!"
