"The student and I worked on a study guide for a math quiz she has on Tuesday this week and for a test she has on Friday. She needed some help with graphing quadratic equations but for the most part did really well. We also worked on the intro and conclusion paragraphs for a paper she is writing on the movie "Titanic." We used her thesis, notecards, articles, and body paragraphs to begin to draft the introduction. She is doing well."
"We spent most of the time focusing on basic statistics. She had an assignment that covered, mean, median, mode, range, and stem-and-leaf plots. She was comfortable with arranging numbers into the stem-and-leaf plot, as well as taking median, mode and range. I showed her how best to organize numbers given in a plot to find the mean, and she was able to correctly take the mean from then on. Additionally, she asked me to show her how to use a dot plot to organize data, so I gave her an example of that. I then constructed a problem that had her organize data into a dot plot and take the mean, which she was able to do correctly. With the remainder of our time, I introduced her to box-and-whisker plots, and described the benefits and uses of it over other plots."
"We first went though his descriptive memoir essay, which I corrected. He's agreed to type up another draft by Thursday so we can work on it some more. We worked on his math for the rest of the session, thinking about turning word problems into algebra equations, and the relationship between algebra equations and graphs."
"Today we worked on more advanced addition, counting by tens up to 800, and some multiplication. The student did very well and will need more challenging material for future sessions. He is very bright and energetic and is a pleasure to work with."
"I worked with the student on his 7, 8, and 9 multiplication tables as well as decomposing larger numbers and on writing independently. I worked with his sister on writing letters correctly and on addition with numbers 1-5. I assessed their needs for future sessions."
"Today we focused our session on timed multiplication trials. We timed two sets of 100 multiplication problems with numbers 1-10. The student completed her first trial in 9:55 and her second in 8:25. We will continue to do these trials to help relax her. We also practiced spelling, both on her class given words and within her chapter book."
