Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We utilized the student's district-supplied website. She requested to work on prime/composite numbers and algebraic equations. I recommended that she continue the "independent practice" portion of the algebraic equations so that she would feel more comfortable with doing them by herself."
"We worked on math word problems, identifying keywords to indicate what kind of math operation to use. If the problem includes a total, we know it is either a subtraction or division problem. We further identified keywords that indicate that it is a division problem. We also looked at keywords to identify if the answer is for the quotient, the remainder, or both. We wrote the conclusion sentence for the paragraph she was going to write about her favorite character."
"This was our last session. We went over a state assessment review the student completed and I graded. Then we reviewed mode, median, and range. We went over a practice test. Lastly, we reviewed probability, which she struggled with initially, but started to understand by the end of the session."
"We covered integers in real life and common factors, and greatest common factor. The student executed the concepts covered well. She is starting to comprehend word problems. She is utilizing close read strategies to do problems accurately. Overall, it was a productive session."
"The student and I worked on her review packet. We were working on complex multi-step problems. She says that drawing helps her understand, so she and I discussed the difference between math drawing and doodling. I did find that letting her draw gave her a micro-break that helped increase her focus."
"Today we worked on basic fraction concepts. We reviewed how to write fractions and the vocabulary involved. We watched videos that explain fractions, making equivalent fractions, and reinforced each concept with pages from his math workbook. Since he moved to a new school he had blank pages and we decided to go back to reinforce those concepts. Once he was confident we moved on to comparing fractions with different numerators and denominators. He was also able to generate equivalent fractions. We were able to review a few different skills and next time we meet we will continue. He had a great session and seemed more focused and motivated."
