Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is showing improvement. Logic games continues to be her strong point. We worked through two games together and she had good technique and worked at a fairly good pace. Reasoning is improving as well. The most promising development was how well she processed the reading passages. I told her to continue practicing on her current track, which should improve her pace."
"For our last lesson the student and I just went over the problems that she worked on recently that really bothered her. She was still having a tough time with reading comp and seemed to have worked herself up into a frenzy about it. I encouraged her to try and relax as much as possible and just reinforced the tactics I had given her last time and really asked her to try and use them on test day. We then looked over logical reasoning. She was doing better with this section - we worked on assumption questions again to try and really hound that information, and I think she picked up on a few more things. We finished by going through some logic games that she felt took her too long and I pointed out where she could have drawn our distinct templates that would have helped her. Overall I told her she should just try and relax, not stress so much and try and be confident in the skills I know she has."
"We discussed a general study strategy; daily practice 5x a week and full practice test 1x a week. We then covered two logic games, going through the problems and practicing diagramming and deducing answers from the rules."
"The student took a full test this past weekend and scored a 157. This is a great improvement over the 153 from his previous test. He did great on the games and reading comprehension, but had minor difficulty with just one of the logical reasoning sections. We went over the ones he got wrong for that section, and have identified certain types of questions that give him the most trouble. Knowing this, he is going to be more focused on those types of questions in the future. He is progressing well. We plan to meet again in 3 weeks."
"Most of today's session was spent on logical reasoning. The student and I discussed strategies for conquering assumption questions, "role in the argument" questions, strengthen questions, and flawed reasoning questions. The student is improving in her ability to spot conclusions and sub-conclusions. In the logic games section we talked about difficult question types, such as fully determined questions and those that require counting of variables. Thorough diagramming, we noted, is the key to such questions. Overall she is making great progress and will complete Prep test 65 for the next session."
"We spent about half our time working on ordering games and discovered any mistakes were caused by simple mistakes which is awesome and easy to fix! We then worked on LR which actually went pretty well; we're just going to focus on understanding the argument and then proceeding rather than following any cookie cutter algorithm."
