Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued going over the topic of Reconstruction as his teacher has been going over the material for multiple sections. We worked on his homework, and I asked additional questions based on his materials."
"During this session the student and I looked ahead to a research paper that will count as a final grade for his AP language course. However, we spent the majority of the session working on a five-question presentation that he will be giving on Friday for his AP US history class. His questions cover the end of Reconstruction and the disenfranchisement of African Americans."
"Began the tutoring session by having the student list the US presidents. For the rest of the tutoring session, we worked on writing DBQ essays for classroom tests and the AP test. This consisted of reviewing ways to better understand the essay topic, writing a thesis, and reading comprehension."
"The student and I spent the time going over a template I found describing the most important points regarding how to write a history DBQ. She and I then went over the essay she had sent me, analyzing it to see how much of it followed the format and suggestions of the template. We had a very useful discussion regarding ways she could improve her writing flow, style, and format. We also discussed some possible short cuts as to how to read the documents more efficiently, as well as how to take small quotes from those documents to provide the necessary evidence/support for her thesis statement."
"We focused mainly on reviewing the Cold War and the 1990s. I also left him a copy of my generic SAT essay to help illustrate the standardized test essay writing strategies we've discussed."
"We spent the first part of the session reading and discussing a passage from the student's history text on the feudal system in Europe's Middle Ages. After reading the passages, we applied some of the concepts covered to a project he needs to complete on the mutual responsibilities of lords, vassals, and serfs in the feudal system."
