"We covered two different attack strategies for Verbal Reasoning. Because the student had said that timing was an issue for her, I began by introducing her to argument analysis and showing how that relates to 4 of the 6 basic questions types. I then attempted to train her in the shortcut version of attacking the passage - reading the questions first, then going through the passage on a hunt for answers. Since this was a new area of discussion for us, all I had to judge her on was her transition in performance within the session. She did latch on very well to the theory of argument analysis and the algorithm for efficient reading. When we switched tracks, she was able to change direction nicely, and seemed to be ready to perform better. She will do several practice tests in Verbal."
"The student and I discussed his Verbal reasoning strategy in depth. We concluded he would not use a triage technique but would use the strategies employed in his test prep book. He has all necessary resources; he must simply trust in the strategy and stick with it."
"Today the student and I finished our MCAT verbal tutoring by finishing the MCAT section we had started yesterday. He showed great improvement in his ability to comprehend passages, analyze questions, and select correct answer choices through the implementation of our techniques. Despite this, he did make several errors in answer selection and question reading, reducing his score to an 8 (28/40 questions right). Still, this puts him at the high end of the 8 spectrum, and if he had gotten two more questions right he would have likely gotten a 10. He shows promise with such an improvement in two weeks. If he continues to work on this, I am sure he can score a 10."
