Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over circuits topics and did some relevant problems. The student reported to understand the approach better once we had finished."
"We reviewed balancing chemical equations and writing formulas. The student understood the concepts and executed them very well."
"Today we went over chapter 2 of the AP Chem book, which covered the periodic table and periodic trends. This included learning to read the periodic table (atom name, atomic number, mass number, etc.) and what can be derived from these numbers (proton, electron and neutron count); what isotopes are and how their mass makes up the average atomic mass found on the periodic table; different groups and unique chemistry of groups (i.e., halogens readily gain an electron to attain noble gas configuration of electrons, alkali metals readily lose an electron, etc.); and trends in atomic radii, effective nuclear charge, ionization energy, electron affinity and electronegativity. For these trends, we first defined what we were looking at, what the trend is, and why the trend is that way by looking at the subatomic particles that determine the nature of these trends. Lastly, we discussed how ionic radii vary. The student once again picked up the material well. After the next lecture, I hope that the student will be able to independently study for the AP Chem exam using the book while only utilizing me for guidance and questions. Once the foundations are set, we should be able to progress at a greater rate as she can start to take control and make sense of the chemical theory on her own."
