Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent today talking about the student's upcoming government final and how he wants to study. We made a list of the general topics he should be familiar with and then talked about a system to make the most efficient use of the remaining tutoring sessions. We spent the majority of the session making flashcards for key Supreme Court cases, and he seems to be pretty quick to catch onto everything once he developed a kind of mnemonic. I've asked him to continue reviewing what we did today and to make some more flashcards on his own."
"The student and I went over her sources and assessed their arguments, and discussed the necessary steps towards providing a critical analysis of the data presented by her central source. After discussing which aspects of her source were the most important to focus on, I instructed her in creating an effective outline for her paper."
"The student and I worked on math today --- graphing reflections and rotations on a coordinate plane. He actually did very well with the material. He had the right attitude to complete the work."
"I had the student look back at a short nonfiction text we read last week and compose a compare and contrast essay using it and his prior knowledge. We did have to review how to write an effective introduction but his thesis was very good. We are still going to continue embedding quotes into the text."
"We started with working on her grammar test. We talked about how to set up a good argument with good counterclaims. She doesn't seem to have done much persuasive writing in English, so we can work on it over the summer when she has more time so that she is prepared for high school."
"We went over some sections from Percy Jackson (I had the student read and write down the sections). Any mistakes he made, I corrected for him and told him to review the mistakes after the session. He was motivated and enthusiastic throughout the session."
