Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed concepts of waves, primarily the relationship between wave velocity, frequency and wavelength. We went through some practice problems involving the time it takes waves to travel various distances, determining wave parameters from given information. He seemed to have a reasonably good understanding of the concepts at the end of the session. This was our first session in a while, and he noted that he had been doing as well has he hoped in physics."
"In geometry the student's finished up and corrected his unit review, and continued working on his project. In biology we talked about different mechanisms of evolution, including genetic drift, nonrandom mating, mutations, gene flow, and different types of natural selection. We also discussed speciation."
"The student is doing very well in his Physics class. We got through his major review for a standardized state practice test and prepared him for his Thursday quiz on electricity. I do not think he will have a problem doing well on his academic subjects. We will begin preparing for the ACT very soon."
"The student worked on test corrections over his quiz on exponents and logarithms, reviewing the addition/multiplication and subtraction/division rules, power of a power rule. He also worked on physics homework covering electrostatic forces and the electrostatic force equation."
"We went over more momentum today as the student has a quiz on chapter 7 on Monday. She looks like she's in good shape! The one thing that I told her was to carefully read the problem, because she knows the concepts, she knows the material, and she knows how to solve the equation once she writes it down, but often times her mistakes come from not reading the problem correctly. Hence, just make sure she reads the problem really carefully before she writes down the equation. We also very briefly went over the next topic: rotational motion, but decided to wait until after the quiz before we dive deeper into the new material. Finally, things are looking good! Just remember to read the problems carefully and good luck on the quiz!"
"We spent a bit of time discussing nuclear fission which was a topic that the student's class had been covering. We then got a head start into electricity and electrostatics, since this was a topic that his professor had mentioned was going to be the next subject to cover. We did a few problems involving Coulomb's Law and finding the force on a particle. We also spoke about voltage and Ohm's law in a circuit."
