Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is taking her test in two days so we practiced alternative ways of answering questions by watching online interviews. I taught her new vocabulary and practiced conversational skills. Overall she is showing solid improvement."
"The student read all of the sight words and I gave her 2 additional words. We reviewed consonant blends and then I introduced the consonant blend sl. She reread the 2 books I left with her. She then read a new Level G book. In math we worked on addition and subtraction. She was having a little trouble remembering what the + and - signs mean. We reviewed that and did some examples. We will continue to go over the math signs and their meaning during future tutoring sessions. ."
"The student made revisions to Essay A (with notes from her professor) and began her homework assignment 11. We read chapter 24 in "Outcasts United" and she answered all the comprehension questions and we began reading chapter 25. We made plans to meet twice next week so she could work on this homework assignment, one more essay, and to discuss her major as she is wrapping up the semester."
"The student and I played a bingo game matching pictures with initial sounds. She seemed to enjoy it. We worked on vowel sounds today and I explained to her that some vowels have more than one sound. We played a following directions game for some movement. I helped her read the 1-3 word directions and then we acted out the movements. I left further instructions on practicing vowel sounds until our next meeting"
"Monday was a lot of reading practice - we read chapter 2 of Number the Stars. The student practiced reading fluently and answered some comprehension questions I asked her. She also printed pictures of landmarks for a project she had to do. We did the Super Speed activity again, three times - we've gotten far enough that we can't break records every time, but still, the sight word practice is very good. Finally, we read more of the Scooby Doo mystery book."
"Today we began by having the student review how to write each letter in the alphabet in both upper and lowercase form. We then began spelling new words and crafting new sentences using note cards. During the session, we also took a break to read a story out of Dr. Seuss' Sneetches and Other Stories."
