Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I practiced adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. We also practiced multiplying and dividing with fractions. We then practiced simplifying fractions. Next session, we will continue practicing adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. We also continued to review vocabulary words. Next session, he will show me some of his recent math tests so we can focus on critical concepts."
"The student and I reviewed a packet that she was assigned over her break, and she was able to finish it this session. The packet dealt mostly with surface area and interpreting how to work with 3D objects. Because it's not always easy to visualize the 2D layout of a 3D object, we made a cut out rectangular prism, and it seemed to help her figure out how to label the 2D layouts. After some initial confusion, she was able to finish the packet with little help. For her challenge question, she understood all the steps we took and has a good grasp of why we went through the steps we did. Overall, she made a great effort, and I look forward to seeing her again."
"The student had some math problems about adding/ subtracting measurements. He found the word problems to be very difficult. We tried drawing pictures so he can see what's happening in the problems. We will continue using this method. It really helped."
"We covered fraction and decimal operations. The student did a good job with fraction and decimal operations. She understood all the steps to execute these operations. She was a masterful student today. She continues to show growth as a 4th grade mathematician. She had a productive session today."
"The student and I worked on word problems focusing on division and multiplication. He identified when to use division and multiplication and why. He drew pictures to solve each problem and show his work. For reading, we read sentences and identified the verb in each sentence. He reviewed linking and action verbs and identified these in each of the sentences. He is making great progress, especially in math."
"Today, the student and I worked on multi-step word problems. He is really getting better at identifying what multiple steps are needed to solve the problem. He is slowly starting not to overthink the word problems but rather read what is there and solve correctly. After math, we worked on reading to search for the main idea of the passages. We read a book a book on the Galapagos Islands and he completed the comprehension worksheet."
