Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed how to outline an argumentative essay. We covered how to locate and support textual evidence. Student received an "A" on his last assignment. I left him with the assignment to finish his essay."
"The student has picked a topic for her English research paper today. We did some online research into the topic and outlined several places in the text. We noted the difference in the text, and she is going to pick sources out for our next session. She'll also have a short explanation of why each source supports her thesis. She will then make a full outline of the paper, so she can write a draft."
"We covered ways to construct the student's real world essay for his English class. He has progressed in terms of expressing his ideas and will continue to work on grammar and sentence construction in future sessions. His essay is nearly complete and will require one more session to finalize. The student, as always, was receptive to feedback and is motivated to perform well in his course."
"For this session, we talked a lot about grammar stuff, specifically the proper way to write dialogue, and I had the student write a story using dialogue for the first time."
"Today I helped the student with her reading. Next we played a game with her spelling words in which each word was written in a scrambled way on an index card. Each card had a hint to help guess the word. The first player to unscramble the word and correctly spell it aloud got 2 points. The last 10 minutes were spent with her reading aloud from a book."
"We started reading the novel the student picked out, "Transfer of Power." We then read a nursery rhyme "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears," which was too easy. Next time, I will bring in a "just right" novel and tips to work on spelling."
