Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First task was looking over practice quiz. I made a change and put him in a testing environment just so I can observe better how he tests. I walked him through the first example and he started getting his confidence back. He was working through the rest on his own with mistakes but he retained an adequate amount of what we covered. After taking the quiz, I used another practice test to show wider amount of problems outside of algebra to gauge what else he needs to improve on. I worked through several examples and showed how I solved each one. I left him those problems and more notes to review."
"This was the student's last session before taking the SAT exam tomorrow. We reviewed some essay techniques and went over some of the common prompt formats. Her reasoning and thesis composition skills are very strong. We worked on pulling examples from personal experience and common stories. She seems to be getting a stronger grasp of the arguments made in the presented passages."
"Today we covered generally the majority of the topics that will be on the student's test tomorrow. I left her with studying the solubility rules along with her own study. There are no concerns."
"Used the session to score and review the entire timed test that the student took last weekend. She continues to have a very firm grasp on which questions she is capable of answering and which she isn't, allowing her to leave blank questions that she can't answer, maximizing her score. I firmly believe that she is in a good place going into the test on Saturday."
"As previously stated, we continued with his review for the SAT single subject test in Biology. I allowed him to complete a Molecular test by himself, with me providing assistance and guidance when needed as well as test taking skills. Moreover, we discussed more in depth cloning, transformation and restriction enzymes and their role in molecular biology, along with other biology issue such as mimicry and classification of plants."
"Since this was our last meeting, we reviewed strategies we talked about in previous sessions. We edited and discussed an SAT essay that the student wrote this week and worked on a few strategies for improving the writing score. We also reviewed vocabulary and reading comprehension questions, and talked about test day."
"Today we finished up with math, did science, and started on English. The student finished with a 28 in math and completed everything within time, an unprecedented jump for him. He is extremely motivated and puts in the extra work outside of our sessions, and it really shows! We also did science today, which was much better as well."
"In the student's and my last session, we took a brief look at each section. Her grammar skills have improved significantly since last week. Similarly, she did very well with the essay she practiced and the reading comprehension section. After we went over each of these, we spoke specifically about two math concepts: remainder and the "Venn Diagram Formula." Then we did a math section together. She is an excellent student; she will do well."
"Today we continued preparation for the student's SAT with more practice sessions. He scored exceptionally well on all of his sections and seems to be very well prepared for his test."
"The student and I went over concepts and questions in preparation for him taking the SAT subject test Math 1 tomorrow. We reviewed all of the questions on the website, and then went over concepts and other review questions. He seems prepared for the exam tomorrow."
"We reviewed a practice test taken by the student as extra practice and took and review a separate practice test. His performance on both suggested that, when taking the test without distraction, his scores go up considerably."
"We covered a practice test together. The student had previously taken a practice test and we also all went over the questions he had on that test. He is taking the SAT II tests tomorrow"
