Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, I worked with the student on some math problems. We worked on conversions, inequalities, and simple subtractions and additions. I taught him how to figure out the next step for long problems. The student was eager to learn!"
"We covered geometric shapes, and how to calculate the perimeter and area of triangles and quadrilaterals today. We also reviewed adding and subtracting with negative numbers. We started a new warm-up today involving 40 division problems instead of the 35 multiplication problems. He did very well! We will continue working on this warm-up until he can complete it in under a minute."
"During this session we went over one of the student's homework assignments. It was very similar to the last assignment on confidence intervals, Z intervals, null hypothesis testing, type I and II errors, and interpretation. He's got a test on Friday so I made sure he had a working understanding of the key points in the chapter. We'll be meeting on Friday after his test to discuss it and get a jump on the next chapter."
"The student just started a new unit on finding areas of plane figures. The first section we covered today was on finding areas of triangles and parallelograms. He didn't have a problem finding areas of triangles, but he did have a bit of difficulty when finding areas of parallelograms, so I helped him visualize how it can be done 2 different ways. I worked out some examples, and he was able to apply what he learned to solve other practice problems."
"At the beginning of our session, the student was very excited to tell me she received a 100% on her quiz. During our session, we reviewed graphing and writing equations of ellipses. She had already completed her homework, but wanted to complete additional problems from her textbook. I also wrote out problems, using an old version of the Algebra 2 book, for her to practice and develop further understanding of concepts. She did a great job working independently on these problems. Upon completion, we reviewed her work together."
"Today we reviewed unit 8, which contained counting, permutations, combinations, mean, standard deviation, probability, and z-scores. There were 5 pages on review pack and the first 2 pages reviewed what are counting, permutations and combinations. For each question, he had to determine what type of possibility he needed to use and calculate. After that we continued on standard deviation, mean, and probability percentile problems. These were all real world problems (such as the size of snakes, oranges, etc.)."
